L U N A

Live choreographic creation

Live choreographic creation

For this third edition of the live choreographic creation in the interior courtyard of the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Giorgio Mancini has created ‘L U N A’ for the GM Ballet, based on the Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven.  The choreography was inspired by the original title Beethoven had given to this work, ‘Sonata quasi una Fantasia per il Clavicembale o Piano-Forte’ (or in English, ‘Almost a Fantasy’); to create a choreography that transports the spectator into a far-away imaginary Utopian world, where burdened souls find comfort in the tranquility of the moon.  The dance movement is calm, fluid and light, without resistance, almost weightless.

"In that work Mancini’s choreographic style – which makes liberal use of elements of the classical technique for a small number of dancers endowed with uncommon plasticity – played mostly with frontal movement, making maximum use of the quadruple viewpoint of the public seated under the internal arcades of the renaissance palace." Alfio Agostini
